Car Pooling

How often do you drive alone?  How much do you spend on gas per week?  I often think car pooling isn't done enough.  If you are going somewhere and have the room why not see if someone needs a ride?  This past weekend I car pooled home with my buddy.  It saved me from having to take a bus home, and him from driving alone.  So it worked out for both of us.

If everyone makes a conscious decision to drive only when there is at least one other person in the car it can help lower the cost of driving.  If you spend $20 a week on gas and you find someone who would be willing to switch off days driving you can save $10 a week.  That is enough to buy you one buffalo chicken sub from Big Daddies and a drink.  Or you could save the $10 and put it towards something more worthwhile like your favorite charity or perhaps even invest it.

Aside from the benefit of saving money, the consumption of gasoline would also go down.  We as a country if this took off would lower our demand for the precious fuel.  It is a long shot, but over time we would depend less and less on external sources of oil and even though car pooling isn't the end all solution for our dependence on foreign oil it would be an immediate source of change.

I was just doing a Google search for carpooling and I came across this site.  Ride Buzz, a site where you can find other people who are 'going your way'.
